Anthony Waller from BetTube, the cover story in this month’s Territory Q, is an amazing case study of how a leading growth company can establish itself in a key Northern Territory industry sector whilst at the same time driving high value jobs locally in Darwin.
The BetTube story highlights how the Northern Territory gaming sector can grow to be an increasingly important sector in the Northern Territory for the attraction, development and application of fintech, artificial intelligence, machine learning, content development and largescale advanced data analytics.
The Northern Territory gaming sector also has a solid, proven track record of licensing successful commercial gaming companies having achieved several trade sales and IPOs over the years, including Centre Bet, Alan Eskander’s BetStar, NEDs and International All Sports to name a few.
When you combine the Northern Territory Government’s highly responsible and commercially prudent licensing regime and policy with the gaming sectors proven track record of commercialisation, you get the perfect storm for attracting sports wagering companies, who leverage new digital technologies, to the Northern Territory.
The key point to make is that we want to see the research & development jobs and spend that sit behind these digitally driven companies to be domiciled in the Northern Territory.
The Darwin Innovation Hub is focused on attracting new companies to this and other sectors that are committed to developing local highly skilled digital jobs in the Northern Territory. The DIH can facilitate direct venture capital investment to capitalise such businesses as it has done with BetTube. It also assists these companies to develop their strategies to grow, attract and place jobs including internship pathways for graduates like CDU computer engineers.
In addition, the DIH through the NTG’s Digital Partnerships Program can offer not for profit access to its Compute Facility providing high end uncontested digital capacity for research and development in this space and others.
We believe the BetTube case study provides a template for other locally relevant sectors that leverage digital jobs such as Oil and Gas, Mining exploration, Food & Agribusiness, Manufacturing and Logistics.
3 cheers to Anthony Waller and his team for achieving this in Darwin!!!
